Poovar: Heaven on Earth
Just the sound of the waves to keep you company. And, of course, the backwater canals with their coconut groves and thatched villages. That is Poovar. Thirty kilometers from the state capital of Trivandrum, on the banks of the Neyyar river and you are in Poovar. The place has developed into a first-class up-market tourist destination, minus the crowds.
The sand which flows like water is silky soft making Poovar a haven of beauty and solicitude. All along the canals that line Poovar, you will find rural Kerala in microcosm and you realize that the advertisement about the state being God's own country is true in every sense of the word. There are fishing villages and women neck-deep in water hunting for fish with their feet. Houseboats ply along the canals, making up for company that you seem to be missing out in your sojourn to Poovar. The best place to stay would, of course, be Poovar Island.
Reaching Poovar: The nearest airport is Trivandrum and the major Railway Station is Trivandrum Central. Poovar is 30 km from Trivandrum city.
