Udyaneswara Temple

The Udyaneswara Temple on the north-east of the Cochin Thirumala Devaswom has a gigantic lingam. Tradition has it that the symbol of Lord Shiva enshrined in the temple belonged to an ancient shrine Trikkanna Mathilakam. The lingam is believed to have been installed by Parashurama. The temple was destroyed by the Dutch and the lingam had to be reinstalled. Today, the idol which was originally 18 feet in height is now only about four and half feet above ground.
